An Advisor and a Compliment-Giver – That’s AI

Even though AI has brought in many convenient features, if you’ve ever wondered, “Can we really use AI?”—then this conversation-based AI is here to break that hesitation. A tool truly becomes a part of our lives only when we can use it in our everyday routine, right?

Talking to AI is as simple as chatting on WhatsApp. Not fluent in English and worried about how to type? Don’t worry—you can type in Tamil too. There are features where you can even speak, and it will be typed out. If you’re already used to typing in Tamil on WhatsApp, then you’re all set to chat with AI.

You don’t need a desktop computer, laptop, iPad, or any special digital device to use AI. You can use AI right on your mobile phone, which rests in the palm of your hand all the time.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used by integrating it into computers, laptops, smartphones, cameras, smartwatches, cars, bikes, washing machines, medical equipment, and agricultural tools—basically, in any device we use in our daily lives. Additionally, specialized robots can be created for tasks like cleaning floors, serving in hotels, or assisting as domestic helpers, and AI can be integrated into them as well.

For example, in America, a young woman created a robot as her life partner and married it. In India, AI is already being used as a teacher in schools.

AI is basically software. It provides countless benefits through websites on computers and apps on smartphones. The growth of AI is so massive that no one can predict how far it will go.

Let’s Get to the Point

When the internet and Google were first introduced, people were amazed to hear that “The internet can give you answers to everything, search anything for you, help you write letters, stories, essays, poems, recipes, songs, dances—basically provide information on everything.”

Many of those who initially asked “Really?” are now the first to sign up and explore when they hear about conversational AI. This is the best proof of technological advancement.

Conversational AI Applications

There are many new conversational AI apps being introduced regularly, but the most popular and widely used ones are:

  1. Gemini by Google
  2. Copilot by Microsoft
  3. ChatGPT by OpenAI

Their official websites are:

  1. https://copilot.microsoft.com/
  2. https://gemini.google.com/
  3. https://chatgpt.com/

What Are the Benefits?

These are all conversational AI tools. If we ask a question, they provide answers. Just like how we type and chat with each other in Messenger or WhatsApp, we can type and talk with these AI tools. The only difference is, we’re not chatting with another human—we’re conversing with a technology powered by Artificial Intelligence. That’s all.

Don’t assume it’s just for idle chit-chat. It’s not only for conversations—it can also teach you. Yes—from cooking to writing software programs, it can help you learn everything. Wondering why I picked cooking and software as examples? Well, our life runs between the stomach and the brain.

We squeeze our brains for work just to feed our stomachs, right? That’s why I took cooking (for the stomach) and software (for the brain) as the two extremes.

From education, talent, career, business, marriage, and future planning—technology now plays an unavoidable role in our lives, which is why conversational AI can guide you through all of it.

If there are things it doesn’t know, it’ll politely say “Sorry…”—yes, we’re teaching even machines to be polite and civilized!

Prompting Is Very Important

When we type a message to talk with conversational AI, it’s called prompting. That means you must clearly and simply express your message in a way that AI can understand. Only then will you get accurate responses.

So for AI, prompting is very important. Just like we send messages on WhatsApp or Messenger to inform a friend, we send messages (prompts) to AI in a similar way.

Examples of Prompting:

  1. I’m very interested in cooking. What kind of small business can I start with a small investment?
  2. My daughter is passionate about cricket. Are there opportunities for women in cricket in our country?
  3. My son is not interested in studies, but he’s deeply into cinema. Can he succeed in that field without formal education?

How to Start Conversing with AI?

Whichever AI application you want to use, open your mobile browser (like Google or Safari) and type the website address. On a laptop, you can type it into Chrome or any browser.

Since I’m using Google’s Gemini, I type gemini.google.com. I then sign in using my Gmail ID. You can use your Gmail ID and password to sign in as well.

Immediately, you’ll see a box with the text “Enter your prompt here.”

You can type whatever you want to talk about in that box. Just to test how AI responds, I typed in a detailed note about my own background and experiences with AI:

“I’ve been researching AI since 1992. Even before Windows OS became popular in India, we used to write programs in C and C++ on DOS systems and created cartoons and animations. Do you know the first screen saver we made? It was an elephant walking from the left to the right of the monitor, swinging its trunk. Teaching a machine to behave like that is, in a way, the foundation of AI.”

After typing your message, click the enter button on the bottom right of the box.

Within seconds, AI will start talking to you. In my case, AI replied with a shower of compliments and suggested that if I wished, we could discuss future plans in detail. It felt like a mini celebration!

This is Ai’s Reply (Conversation) with me:

“That’s a fascinating glimpse into the early days of your AI exploration! Creating even a seemingly simple animation like an elephant walking across the screen on a DOS system using C or C++ was indeed a foundational step in understanding how to programmatically control and simulate movement, which is a core concept in AI.

While I don’t have access to your personal history and the specific screen savers you created, I can certainly appreciate the ingenuity and effort that went into such projects at that time. It highlights how even basic programming exercises could spark an understanding of how to instruct a machine to perform actions.”

You too can begin your own conversation with AI by just typing your needs and questions. Try it out!
