Can We Chat with ‘Meta’ on WhatsApp?
By the end of 2024, the word “Meta” has become quite familiar to all of us. Why? Because we see a small round icon with blue and pink colors popping up in the apps we usage every day — like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. It appears with a friendly “Hey! I’m here to help!” message. Some of us have even started using it.
Back in 2021, the company behind the Facebook app changed its name to Meta. But the app names — WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads, and Facebook — didn’t change.
Now, what’s next in the world of technology? It’s something called 3D technology — a big step forward in artificial intelligence. This is called the Metaverse. Because Meta wants to bring these features into all its apps, Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg renamed the company as Meta.
What is the Metaverse? It’s a magical virtual world that tricks our eyes, ears, and even our nose! It can make our brain believe what we see, hear, and smell — like a real world, but it’s digital. Just remember, the company is named Meta because it plans to bring metaverse features into all its apps. It’s not the same as Metaverse itself.
Before learning more deeply about this, let’s first see how we can use Meta inside WhatsApp and Messenger.
How to Use Meta on WhatsApp
- Open WhatsApp. At the top, you’ll see a small round icon with blue and pink colors. This is the new Meta icon on WhatsApp.
- Click the icon. You’ll see a screen where Meta appears like a friend, ready to chat with you. For example, if you want to send a message to your friend Raji, you click on her name. In the same way, click on the Meta icon to start chatting with it.You can send messages to Meta in English or Tamil, and it will reply. But since it’s still learning other languages, sometimes it may reply:
“I am still learning other languages. Please ask in English.”
- You can ask Meta to draw pictures, give advice, share recipes, help with office problems, or give business ideas. Want to try asking it to draw a few pictures first?
- You need to ask properly. This is called prompting.
That means you need to clearly type what you want.
The more detailed your prompt, the better and more creative the reply will be. - Here are some sample prompts:
- If you give a simple prompt, Meta will reply in a simple way.
But if you give a more detailed prompt, the reply will be even better.
For example, instead of just: “Draw a dog and mouse and cat in a street”
Try:“Draw a dog, a cat, and a mouse playing in a street on a rainy day with umbrellas”
Just like that, you can practice drawing and talking with Meta. Get used to it. We have to train Meta. You might wonder: “We understand that we’re learning to use Meta. But what does it mean to train Meta?”
That’s a good question! I’ll explain it in next month’s article.
